She the world’s shortest woman, and he the world’s tallest man, and together they hit Egypt’s pyramids this week.
The reason? To revive the country’s struggling tourism industry.
Seriously.
According to the Daily Mail, it was both Sultan Kosen and Jyoti Amge’s first trip to Egypt, after being invited to the North African country by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board:
Kosen, a 35-year-old from Turkey, stands at 8ft 3in (2.51 metres), making him the tallest man on the planet, while 24-year-old Amge from India is the shortest woman in the world at just over 2ft tall (0.6 metres).
Between them there’s 6,25 feet (1,9 metres), and it’s all just a bit ridiculous:
Kosen is the first person in more than a decade to measure over 8ft and is one of only 10 confirmed cases in history.
While he is the tallest man in the world, his family members are all average size. Kosen was also normal height up until his growth spurt when he was 10 years old.
His massive size is the result of a condition known as ‘pituitary gigantism,’ which is caused by an over-production of growth hormone.
Meanwhile, Amge’s restricted height is due to a form of drawfism called achondroplasia. The average female who has the same growth anomaly typically grows to 48 inches tall.
As a teen, she weighed just 11lbs, and she was officially declared the world’s smallest woman in 2011 after her 18th birthday.
Kinda cute, though.
