This year’s Golden Globes was watched far and wide, and also very carefully.
The 75th edition of the annual awards show, some people did well with setting new standards when it comes to addressing social issues.
Echoing the immense #MeToo movement that picked up momentum towards the end of last year, the glamorous evening also did very well in the meme category, giving us a fantastic introduction to 2018.
Apart from the black dresses, inspirational speeches and a consequential Oprah for President campaign, here are some of the evening’s best moments, from TIME:

But the winner of the night was William Dafoe.
Nominated for his performance in The Florida Project (watch the trailer here if you haven’t yet), Dafoe was sitting in the crowd when host Seth Meyers went on to say:
“For the male nominees in the room tonight, this is the first time in three months it won’t be terrifying to hear your name read out loud.”
Meyers then feigned a conversation between two people:
“‘Did you hear about Willem Dafoe?’ ‘Oh, God, no!’ ‘He was nominated.’ ‘Don’t do that! Don’t do that.’”
And Dafoe’s reaction? Priceless:

While he didn’t win the award for Best Supporting Actor, he did win in the highly meme-able moments category.
