There’s no doubt that the Sea Point Promenade is one of Cape Town’s finest attractions.
Extending from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay, ambulating, running, cycling or skating along the seaside walkway is a pleasure shared by many Capetonians from all walks of life.
But while you might have a few suggestions to improve the 11km stretch, RSAWEB has taken the initiative and installed some free internet connectivity for all.
Boom.
RSAWEB, whose Cape Town offices are in the area, have partnered with Friends of the Sea Point Pavilion to provide fast reliable Wi-Fi, explains Mark Slingsby, the CEO of RSAWEB:
“With our common vision of free Internet access in public spaces, we have partnered with the Friends of Sea Point Pavilion to connect people with our FreeWifi service. We love the Sea Point Promenade but thought, ‘Why doesn’t it have Wi-Fi?’
“The importance of convenient internet access, especially in underprivileged areas, cannot be understated. This is part of RSAWEB’s FreeWifi project, the promenade is being used as a beta test before targeting other high traffic areas around Cape Town. Public engagement is encouraged and will help determine which communities would benefit most from the FreeWifi project.”
It’s all rather exciting, isn’t it?
Friends of Sea Point Pavilion, a long-standing community group formed in 2009 to help make the swimming pool area more enjoyable and convenient as a public facility, explained that the decision came about in an attempt to “support our food vendors already on the forecourt” – and free Wi-Fi access was the perfect option.
You’ll be getting ONE FULL HOUR of high-speed Wi-Fi goodness, friends, without coughing up a cent.
You will be able to connect from the shaded seating area next to the swimming pool, which is surrounded by many small businesses that should receive a helpful boost to sales as a result of the increased foot traffic.
Win win.
If you live in the area, RSAWEB Fibre is now in Sea Point. Check out the information here and see what else they have to offer.
