What would we do without citizen journalists, hey?
Up in the Vaal Marina area, located in Gauteng, severe wind causing extensive damage hit the town late Monday afternoon, reports IOL, and a few residents managed to capture most of what went down.
According to paramedics at least 50 people were injured, and “rooftops were blown off and power lines damaged in what was described by onlookers as a tornado”:
Paramedics found that at least 50 patients had sustained minor injuries. Of those, half were treated on the scene and a total of 25 patients were transported to hospital for further medical care by emergency medical services personnel.
And get this gem:
While the cause of the abnormal winds were not yet known, local authorities are on the scene to investigate.
Who or what are they going to investigate? Sangomas? A mad scientist perfecting his chem trail technique?
Who knows – here’s the ‘tornado’, as many on social media called it:
Times LIVE reports that at least “300 people have reported damages to their homes, with some having been destroyed by the storm”.
This is according to the Midvaal Municipality, who are assisting displaced residents with temporary shelters while assessing the extent of the damage – and from what we can tell, there’s a lot of it:
