If you have tried your hand at home brewing, but cannot, for the life of you, figure out timing, amounts and what home-made beer is supposed to taste like, then SodaStream are sure they have the answer.
Except, what they have on offer is not beer.
Rather, it’s sparkling wine that, according to 76 of the 100 Germans they claim to have surveyed, is “on par with actual French champagnes like Moet & Chardon and Veuve Clicquot,” reports IOL.
Game changer? Definitely – after all, their motto is “water made exciting” and what’s more exciting than water turned into bubbles without the help of Jesus?
Here’s what we know, from Bon Appetit:
According to a press release, the latest addition to the DIY soda line is a “fine alcoholic concentrate” called “Sparkling Gold” and essentially allows SodaStream owners to turn tap water into a sparkling wine that has “the taste of a fruity Riesling wine.”
Sparkling Gold is packaged in — what else? — a sparkly gold 200 mL glass bottle, enough to serve 12 thirsty SodaStream devotees glasses of the 10 percent “sparkling tangy tongue pleaser.”
Per the release, those looking to brew their own wine just have to use the SodaStream machine to whip up a large batch of sparkling water, then add the wine concentrate in a ratio of one part Sparkling Gold to five parts sparkling water.
Should we just come out and say it? Bollocks. Who are these 76 Germans they’re sampling that say it’s as tasty as Moet or Veuve?
SodaStream, we’re not buying it. Not that we could, anyway, because at the moment the product is only available in Germany.
No thanks, we will stick to those wines with a proven track record. There’s still time to pick up a Treasure Chest, the ultimate wine lover’s Christmas gift, if you’re that way inclined.
