Give it up for Demi-Leigh!
Hailing from the tiny town of Sedgefield in the Western Cape, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa back in March.
Last night, or this morning our time, she was crowned Miss Universe, the second South African to win the title after Margaret Gardiner won it in 1978.
The South African beauty queen beat over 90 contestants from around the globe to take the title. A firm favourite throughout the competition, let’s take a look at her journey in photographs:
It was during the final question and answer section that her fate was sealed:

And with that, she was crowned Miss Universe while wearing a gold-embellished Anel Botha design. Miss Jamaica was crowned second princess, while Miss Colombia took home the first princess title.
