There have been a number of dark days for Bok fans under the stewardship of current coach Allister Coetzee, but I doubt we will ever suffer another defeat quite as humiliating as that against Japan in the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The Japanese might have been coached by Eddie Jones, widely regarded now as the best in the world, but it’s a day that will long live in infamy.
Thanks, Heyneke.
As it stands we’re currently on a two-game winning streak, having dominated a terrible Italian outfit over the weekend and pipped the French the Saturday before, but it’s the latter we will focus on here.
Turns out they almost became Japan’s second-biggest scalp of all time, a missed conversion by Japanese fly-half Yu Tamura seeing the French hang on for a 23-23 draw.
Still, a pretty mighty upset.
Try of the day definitely goes to France, though, with a cracking crossfield kick. You can see that from the 1:25 mark below, but you may as well watch the full highlights:
Unfortunately that video above doesn’t have the sound at the final whistle, so to get a sense of how the French crowd felt skip through to 6:30 below:
Not happy at all.
While we’re talking upsets, can we please take a moment to enjoy the pasting that the Scots handed down to the Ozzies?
Can’t help but smile, right?
The Boks will finish off their end-of-year tour with a showdown against the Welsh, and you can bet that they will provide a sterner test than the French and the Italians.
