Whether it’s Harry and Meghan or Malia and this cat, it seems the UK and the US have never been more attracted to one another.
Malia Obama is kicking off her first year at Harvard with some excellent tabloid fodder.
Just the other day this video emerged of Malia locking lips with some jock at the annual Harvard vs. Yale football game.
Trust me, following my stint at Harvard Business School earlier this year, I can relate.
What I cannot relate to is how “we” lost to Yale for the first time since 1980.
Gutted.
I digress. Back to the love birds.
It turns out the stud in question is none other than Rory Farquharson. Oh, you’ve never heard of him? He just happens to be a former head boy of England’s Rugby school.
The Telegraph were quick to quick to cut to the chase and point out that the termly fees at Rugby came to around R215 000. Wowsers, that makes the likes of Bishops seem positively cheap.
In fact, I’d go as far as to say that Rugby’s termly fees are roughly the same as an entire year at Bishops, including boarding. See here.
Back to old Rory. Here he is. In all his glory.
That’s Rory on the left. The chap on the right has absolutely nothing to do with anything.
Apart from great hair, it seems the R-Train comes from good stock as well. As per the Telegraph.
Mr Farquharson was selected ‘head of school’ at the private school for the school year 2015 to 2016 and was described as popular and “quite a catch” according to one school friend.
He appears to be a talented sportsman as well as academically gifted, representing his school in both golf and rugby matches.
He even took part in a rugby video played at the World Cup Opening ceremony in 2015, in which Prince Harry also made an appearance.
Mr Faquharson spent the summer as an intern with the Centre for Democracy and Peace Building in Northern Ireland.
His father Charles, 57, who has a degree in law from St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, is the chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited based in London.
His mother Catherine, 58, is a qualified accountant who sits as a lay person on financial and legal tribunals in London’s Upper Tribunal.
The family live is a six bed detached £1.6m home in Woodbridge, Suffolk.
The teenager’s Twitter account suggests he has an interest in following his father’s career path as he follows several banking-related accounts.
His Twitter account also suggests he is a vocal critic of current US president Donald Trump, retweeting a post which suggested Mr Trump’s “populism” was unlikely to last more than a year.
No word from her dad, former US president Barack Obama, as of yet.
Although he did discuss before that he’s not too stressed about his daughters’ dating lives, for good reason.
Malia, Michelle, Barack and Sasha
Last year her father revealed that Malia and her younger sister Sasha had already started dating, but joked that he was “pretty relaxed” about the prospect because the family still have secret service protection.
“They’ve had Secret Service. There’s only so much these guys can do,” he said.
Classic.
We’ll observe, from afar.
