Tragedy struck in Durban over the weekend, the notorious Umgeni Road the scene of a fatal crash on Saturday night.
The road is well known as a hotspot for drag racing, and the latest accident resulted in the death of three people.
It is reported that a Ford Focus ST and VW Polo collided at the Umgeni and Alpine roads intersection, with one person dying on the scene and a further two at hospital.

An eyewitness account via IOL:
A witness told police that the two cars, had passed him on Umgeni Road heading towards Durban. He remembers the one overtaking the other and then watching the Focus crash into the Polo and sliding off the road, dropping 10m into the storm culvert.
The witness’s car was hit by debris, damaging the windscreen and bonnet.
[Peggy Mdlalose, the aunt of a passenger in the Polo] said they were returning home from Blue Lagoon after attending a friend’s party. Masondo had two children – a 10-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter – and two sisters.
34-year-old Andile Wiseman Masondo lost his life in the crash, as did Nontobeko Pretty Sindane, 42, and Sylvia Mouriri Motsilisi, 40.
