During the mid 1960s every member of The Beatles owned a MINI Cooper for a period of time.
The cars was gifted to the quartet as a thank you from their manager, Brian Epstein, for making him very, very wealthy.
So sweet.
While each of the iconic cars are all well-known – with the most distinctive being George Harrison’s MINI with the crazy graphics – another member’s original MINI is up for grabs.
It’s the hatchback MINI Cooper S with Radford conversion owned by Ringo Starr, and it will go under the hammer next month in London, reports Cars UK.
Expected to fetch over £100 000 (R1,9 million), Ringo’s MINI is just as distinctive as George’s, but in its own unique way: Ringo got a hatchback conversion on his so he could actually fit a drum kit in the back if he really wanted to.
Serious:
With the car comes the original log book, signed by both Brian Epstein and Ringo Starr. Here’s some more info:
In the same ownership for 40 years, the Mini has done the publicity rounds with appearances on Blue Peter and the Beatles City exhibition in Liverpool, as well as winning the Style et Luxe Award at Goodwood and appearing on Top Gear.
Finished in two-tone Rolls-Royce Red and Silver Grey, it comes with extended wheelarches, Webasto roof, electric windows, walnut, tinted glass, reclining seats – and rear lights from a VW Beetle.
Fan of The Beatles? Perhaps this was running through your head the whole time – enjoy:
To join legends like The Beatles, you can get your hands on your very own MINI, although it might be a slightly more modern version.
