You might think it’s hilarious to dress your mate up like Borat for his bachelors, but apparently that isn’t going to go down well in Kazakhstan.
Turns out their law enforcement and Borat aren’t in the same WhatsApp group (slang – Google it), because six Czech tourists who donned the iconic Mankini as part of their Borat outfits were arrested in the capital city of Astana last week.
Apparently they were arrested and fined 22,500 Tenge (around R950) each due to their “indecent” appearances.
This is that lot shortly before the police stepped in:
Well, you wanna behave like a doos…
If they had done their homework the lads would have known that Borat and Kazakhstan have a rather love / hate relationship:
Kazakhstan banned the film and sales of the DVD. The government also threatened to sue Baron Cohen.
Although the sections of the film set in Kazakhstan were mainly filmed in Romania, Kazakh officials felt the movie portrayed the country as a racist, sexist and primitive.
However, in 2012, the Kazakh foreign minister publicly thanked Baron Cohenfor boosting tourism in the central Asian state.
Primitive, racist and sexist – case in point:
Guess you gotta take that tourist boost, however it arrives.
