Well, it really is going down up north.
Yesterday there was much confusion and conjecture over what the increased military presence in Harare meant for the future of Robert Mugabe, but now it’s pretty clear what we are seeing.
The army might be denying it, but this one has all the hallmarks of a (so far relatively peaceful) coup, however you dress it up. That will surely seal the end of Mugabe’s reign of terror in Zimbabwe, and it’s also bad news for his dear wife Grace.
Is it too soon to ask the Zim military to come and claim those awful children from whichever Jozi nightclub they’re currently in, too?
The State broadcaster has been seized by the military, and sources close to the president say he is preparing to step down.
News24 have a live blog running, with updates periodically, which you can follow HERE.
The BBC are also keeping a close eye on developments, with their live blog HERE.
The Guardian are on top of this one as well, and I would recommend keeping an eye on their updates HERE.
We’ll keep an eye on what’s happening, and if Zim can avoid bloodshed and ouster the truly awful Mugabe then perhaps it’s cause for celebration.
