Hehehe.
It was just over a week ago that reports flew in suggesting that Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber were back together.
The world, of course, was stunned as Gomez was supposed to be dating Abel Tesfaye, more commonly known as The Weeknd.
I mean, look at this:
But soon the pieces of the puzzle started fitting together and it soon came to light that the Biebs and Gomez are in fact together, starting a “new relationship” as both of them have “changed” since their 2015 split.
Whatever that means. We all know that the only reason you get back with your ex is to solidify the reason you split in the first place.
Not only were they seen riding bikes together…
But the two were also spotted spending a Sunday together attending a church service at the megachurch Hillsong, where they are both congregants.
Following Bieber’s strange church-going behaviour prior to this moment, The Daily Beast reported how he was known for bringing his love interests to services at Hillsong.
And, well, Selena is obviously his latest arm candy.
So what do we know about the ultrachic, yet uber-conservative church? Well, here’s a quick look from Business Insider:
Hillsong has chapters all around the world and is known for its casual, concert-like approach to traditional church services [above].
Hillsong has attracted numerous A-listers like Vanessa Hudgens, Hailey Baldwin, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, earning it a reputation as the celebrity church du jour.
Carl Lentz, the pastor of Hillsong in New York City, told Business Insider that despite the church’s celebrity following, Hillsong was just a normal church. And although Hillsong puts forth a savvy rebranding of Christianity, it is, at its heart, a conservative Pentecostal church.
This is their bible:
But then there are the not-so-good things:
Hillsong has openly opposed same-sex relationships and abortion rights, and it used to refer members “struggling” with their sexuality to conversion therapy, according to The Daily Beast. Though Hillsong stopped that practice in 2011, some gay congregants have continued to feel unwelcome.
You can read more about Business Insider’s Amanda Luz Henning Santiago’s trip into the church here.
At the end of the day, all I am asking is how this plays out for Selena and The Weeknd’s collabs with PUMA:
“Puma has changed the game when it comes to the mash-up of athletic wear and fashion,” Selena shared. “It’s amazing to see this influence on style and culture and I’m excited to be a part of it. I am hoping that we can create something special together. We already have some really cool projects in the works.”
Although the two’s split came down to not being able to spend enough time with each other, what with Selena shooting a movie and The Weeknd on tour, they did make the perfect PUMA dream team that we sure are going to miss:
I guess we’re just going to have to see how they bring the brand to the forefront of their lives, now that they’re on separate paths.
Who thought a church would bring Selena and Bieber back together. Hmmph.
