French President Emmanuel Macron has been left a little red-faced after the behaviour of his pooch, Nemo.

Macron was in a meeting with junior ministers when Nemo decided it was time to take a slash in the fireplace, something those in the meeting were quick to notice.

“I wondered what that noise was,” said Brune Poirson, who is the junior minister for ecology.

“Does that happen often?” another junior minister, Julien Denormandie asked.

It’s actually very out of character for Nemo, who has been praised for his impeccable manners during previous appearances. Here he is greeting Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou:
