A new low for Trump takes some doing, but by any account this is just plain nasty.
We all know that Donald has absolutely no problem standing in front of a crowd and busting out the lies, and those calling him out are never far behind.
This one starts with Trump falsely claiming during a press conference on Monday that his predecessors had not called the families of U.S. servicemen and women killed in action.
Such a load of baloney, and so easy to prove false. When you’re caught out it’s good just to double down and dig the hole deeper, though, because when called out, Donald started using his Chief of Staff John Kelly’s dead son as ammo.
This from the Daily Beast:
“To the best of my knowledge, I think I’ve called every family of somebody that’s died,” Trump told Fox News radio host Brian Kilmeade on Tuesday morning. “As far as other representatives, I don’t know, I mean you could ask Gen. Kelly, did he get a call from Obama?”
Kelly, a retired Marine general, is the most senior U.S. military officer to have lost a child in ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Before long, news organizations [sic] began reporting that Obama had indeed failed to call Kelly after his son’s death—and attributing the fact to a “senior White House official.” The West Wing was looking to backstop Trump’s claim without attaching anyone’s name to the attack.
President Obama “did not call Gen. Kelly [above] after the death of his son,” the unnamed White House official began telling political reporters.
White House officials, save for Trump himself, are clearly not enthusiastic to affix their names to this politicization of Kelly’s kid.
You know you’re being awful when no one in the most morally bankrupt White House in history wants to put their name to something.
That’s not the new low, unfortunately, because that sets the scene for this stinker.
Huff Post below on how he handled his latest call to a widow of an American soldier killed in action in Niger:
Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) was in the car with Myeshia Johnson, the pregnant widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson, when Trump called her Tuesday and spoke for about five minutes…
“Sarcastically he said: ‘But you know he must have known what he signed up for,’” Wilson recounted to NBC6.
“How could you say that to a grieving widow? I couldn’t believe… and he said it more than once. I said this man has no feelings for anyone. This is a young woman with child who is grieved to her soul.”
The White House, when asked for comment, didn’t deny that Trump had thrown in that “what he signed up for” line:
“The president’s conversations with the families of American heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice are private,” an unnamed official said in the statement.
You want to see the ultimate sacrifice? Here’s Myeshia and her children at the airport when the casket touched down on American soil:
Donald talks about NFL players taking a knee disrespecting the flag and all that bollocks, but he genuinely seems unable to express actual human emotions like sympathy and empathy.
Day 270 of this cretin’s term as president, and you can bet the next low is just around the corner.
