Oh shiiiiit. Get out your rakes, there’s a yard fight going down.
Recently opening its doors in the new, uber-trendy Silo District, and owned by Paarl’s Spice Route, The Yard describes itself as an “exciting new hybrid concept store-cum-bistro bar that features a retail and dining experience”.
I know the use of the word “cum” is correct in this instance, but could we please not when we refer to food?
Perhaps you have already scoped it out to see what’s up, or perhaps you have realised that it happens to share its name with another, more established and loved restaurant, YARD, based in Roodehek Street, Gardens.
Now the original YARD [above], which houses the likes of the well-known ‘The Dog’s Bollocks’ and ‘The Bitch’s Tits’, is getting their own back.
Established in 2011, the owner, Nigel Wood, has taken to his personal Facebook profile to express his dismay.
This via DrinksFeed:
I am a tenacious and very proud brand owner and my staff and I have worked our “bollocks” off day and night to build YARD in Cape Town and …will NOT .. let any unethical and unprofessional chancers attempt to damage the reputation and brand equity that all my hard working staff members have built up over the past 6 years … I WILL fight for our rights … by hook, by crook and … with embarrassment if necessary.
And that isn’t all he has to say.
Wood has also taken to a number of Facebook pages to show how shooketh he is, even commenting on The Yard’s Facebook page’s profile picture:
He also wrote this post on his own brand’s page – you can expand it if you want to read the full post:
And he shared this for good measure:
So what does The Yard have to say?
Nothing as of yet – are they considering a rebrand, or hoping that this issue will simply go away?
It remains to be seen whose milkshake will bring the boys to … no, sorry, I’m better than that.
We’re done here.
