You want to know why #MeToo is necessary?
Because pretty much every woman alive has a story to tell about sexual assault, sexual harassment or worse – you can keep your #NotAllMen, thanks, and head for the door right now if that’s your vibe.
Today brings with it more examples of the trash running the show in Hollywood, and the latest A-List actress to speak out is Jennifer Lawrence.
Describing an incident from early on in her career, Lawrence spoke about producers pressuring her to lose weight and making actresses participate in nude line-ups.
Get ready for this via PEOPLE:
“During this time a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me. We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates,” she added.
“After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”
Lawrence said she tried to stand up for herself and told another producer she thought the weight loss demands were not appropriate.
“He said he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was ‘perfectly f***able.’”
Isn’t that just charming?
Shall we throw in some Reese Witherspoon whilst we’re here? Below from Huff Post SA:
Witherspoon said in a speech at the Elle Women In Hollywood Awards that she feels “true disgust at the director who assaulted me when I was 16-years-old and anger at the agents and the producers who made me feel that silence was a condition of my employment,” according to People.
“And I wish that I could tell you that was an isolated incident in my career, but sadly it wasn’t. I’ve had multiple experiences of harassment and sexual assault and I don’t speak about them very often.”
…Witherspoon said she had wrestled with guilt about not speaking out earlier about her own experiences in Hollywood.
“But after hearing all the stories these past few days and hearing these brave women speak up tonight about things that we’re kind of told to sweep under the rug and not to talk about, it’s made me want to speak up and speak up loudly.”
“I felt less alone this week than I have ever felt,” she added
There must be a fair few men in Hollywood shitting bricks right now, and one gets the feeling the #MeToo movement is only now hitting fifth gear.
So can we take down Woody Allen yet or…?
