Ryan Gosling is on a bit of a roll.
He can do no wrong in most people’s eyes, the coolest actor of his generation taking over the helm from icons like James Dean, Marlon Brando and Steve McQueen, and creating quality commercial movies that audiences flock to see.
Like McQueen and Dean before him, when he’s on screen he has a habit of hogging the limelight. That’s one reason why we’re all kinds of excited to see him in his latest outing, BLADE RUNNER 2049, which hits cinemas today.
Check out the trailer:
The movie is being heralded as a masterpiece, so you might want to book your tickets now for this weekend and you can thank us on Monday.
To celebrate the release of BLADE RUNNER 2049, and to pay homage to the all-round greatness of Gosling, we thought we’d take a look at what all the fuss is about.
What it really boils down to is that he’s more than just a pretty face – just look at some of the accolades he’s earned during his career to date:
La La Land
One of 2016’s most acclaimed and successful films, it received 14 Academy Award nominations, including one for Gosling for Best Actor, as well as Best Picture.
The film also broke the record for most Golden Globes won by a movie, including Gosling’s win for Best Actor.
Drive
Gosling was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead, and a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Actor, for his work in the action drama “Drive,” directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
Crazy Stupid Love
In 2012, he earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, for his role opposite Steve Carell and Emma Stone in “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”
Blue Valentine
He garnered another Golden Globe nomination and his third Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the 2010 romantic drama “Blue Valentine,” opposite Michelle Williams.
Half Nelson
He earned his first Academy Award nomination and won an Independent Spirit Award, both for Best Actor, for his performance in the 2006 release “Half Nelson.”
For his work in that film, he also received SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award nominations; Best Actor awards at the Stockholm and Seattle Film Festivals; and a National Board of Review Award for Best Male Breakthrough Performance.
There’s more, but I think the point has been made. He’s cool, he can act, and he is easy on the eye.
If you’re looking for your next Gosling fix go check out the man of the moment in what is sure to be his next award-winning movie, BLADE RUNNER 2049, in cinemas today.
