Table Mountain’s India Venster is not for the faint of heart – especially when the weather is playing at one extreme or another.
The trail, taking a route along the western edge of the mountain, requires a moderate fitness level, utmost care and a measure of competence.
Kinda like any trail – ‘cept this one is notorious for being a little more tricky with quite a bit of scrambling. Here’s the route:
Yesterday evening, after a sweltering hot day in the city, a woman in her sixties had to be rescued by an ER24 helicopter after she had gone hiking alone along the trail.
At the time of her disappearance, her cellphone went to voicemail.
According to the medic who found the woman,”she was unable to move and this initiated the ER24 helicopter,” reports IOL. Wilderness Search and Rescue’s Johann Marais explained that:
“The patient was extracted by the helicopter and flown to a temporary landing zone on Tafelberg Road, where the buses turn around.”
Take a look at the series of events in pictures below:
Apparently, the woman had suffered from dehydration. She was badly injured, and treated at the scene for her injuries.
Summer is just around the corner now, so I advise you all take a little more care and hydrate, make sure the weather is suitable, and please try not get too stoned.
