Sheesh, it was quite the weekend for coaches and managers losing their cool.
Yesterday we checked in with Ozzie Michael Cheika going off at a journalist who pointed out Israel Folau’s hair-pulling antics, and we also showed you Allister Coetzee’s meltdown when questioned over the future of Bok forward coach Johann van Graan.
If you missed those you really do need to watch them both HERE.
Sunday saw Jurgen Klopp basically burst a blood vessel or three watching Liverpool squander chances in a draw against the mighty Newcastle (come on the Toon), although our new favourite is Benni ‘in the area’ McCarthy going full Cape Town.
On Saturday Benni’s Cape Town City battled Ajax Cape Town in the local derby, and Benni was feeling the pressure.
Musn’t push? You can make your own mind up:
You don’t need to be a lip-reading pro to know what he was talking about.
To his credit he did front up and apologise, with this via Sport24:
“There were a couple of nasty incidents where I think I also over-reacted a bit,” McCarthy said at the post-match press conference.
“But I’m one of those guys … I always say a team is a reflection of its manager. I’m a passionate guy from Cape Town, and if people want to bully my players, I’m the first one to stand up for them.
“That was one of the situations where, as a coach, you’ve got to deal with it a little bit better, but it just shows the passion that I have for my players and for the team.”
Fair play, Benni – keep the passion alive. If you haven’t yet been to a Cape Town City match you need to get on it ASAP – serious vibe.
Let’s finish with a trip down memory lane – any guesses what then Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is saying to then Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini back to 2014?
Gold star if you guessed “Shut your noise you f*cking old c*nt”.
