Entrusting someone with your child takes much bravery and trust, but after noticing bruises on her nine-month-old daughter’s neck and shoulders, Annemarie Theron suspected all was not well.
Annemarie would leave her child with their nanny while she worked as a reservations and marketing manager at a lodge in Namibia.
One day she decided to set up cameras to see what was happening when she wasn’t around, reports News24:
“After that I sat at work, thinking about my daughter the entire day. That’s when I decided to install cameras, so that I could see what was happening when I’m not at home.”
Now, the Nambian woman has laid charges after the footage she watched showed just one example of how the nanny would recklessly throw the baby into the cot:
“It was very emotional watching it. I refused to sleep, eat or drink for a couple of days afterward. It’s difficult to imagine how long this has been going on for. I can see Laila is so, so broken after everything,” Theron said.
Here’s what she saw:
However, recording the nanny without prior warning made things at the police station a little confusing:
“It was quite a process, as I had to confirm with a mediator what it would mean if I made the recordings without her (the nanny’s) knowledge. The police were initially hesitant about the charges, but wanted to arrest the woman immediately after seeing the footage.”
The former nanny is set to appear in court on Monday on charges of child abuse, assault and attempted murder.
Don’t mess with anyone else’s child.
