The End Of The Oscar Pistorius Trial Is In Sight – Here’s What Lies Ahead

Having grabbed the world's attention and dragged on for far longer than expected, the Oscar Pistorius case now approaches the final hurdle.

It’s the trial that went on and on and on, but we might finally be entering the home stretch in the next few months.

Oscar’s legal team will face off against the State again in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein on November 3, where the State is attempting to get his six-year sentence increased to 15 years.

Of course Gerrie Nel won’t be there, having moved to AfriForum, and the State will be led by Advocate Andrea Johnson.

More from IOL:

The State is…set on appealing what they called a shockingly lenient sentence meted out to him by Judge Thokozile Masipa in the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria.

His advocate, Barry Roux, in papers filed with the SCA, said the looming appealing proceedings are hanging like a sword over his head.

“”On July 6, 2016, he returned to prison to commence serving the six-year-jail sentence. Then the State applied for leave to appeal. Since then the respondent (Oscar) had to await the outcome of the present proceedings, further prolonging the agony caused by uncertainty,” Roux said.

The legal arguments are expected to be concluded within a day, although if this case has taught us anything it’s to expect delays at every turn.
