The Donald has a habit of saying one thing and doing another, and for every decision or tweet he fires off as president there’s a statement of his own out there directly contradicting it.
There’s even an entire Reddit thread called “Trump Criticizes Trump” (Yank spelling), focused entirely on exposing his hypocrisy.
We digress, because we’re here to look at how he responded to climate change questions after Harvey and Irma. Over to Business Insider:
“We’ve had bigger storms than this,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after being asked if hurricanes Harvey and Irma made him rethink his views on climate change.
“We did have two horrific storms, epic storms. But if you go back into the ’30s and ’40s, and you go back into the Teens, you’ll see storms that were very similar and even bigger, OK?”
Sure, OK, but then why did he tweet these out in the weeks gone by?
“Hurricane Irma is of epic proportion, perhaps bigger than we have ever seen,” Trump said on Twitter last week. “Hurricane looks like largest ever recorded in the Atlantic!” he said in another tweet.
Trump was equally reverent of Hurricane Harvey.
“Many people are now saying that this is the worst storm/hurricane they have ever seen,” he tweeted in late August. “Wow – Now experts are calling #Harvey a once in 500 year flood!” he added later.
Honestly, it’s like he can’t remember what he tweeted out. It’s there, on the internet, we can all see it.
Of course the rest of his ‘bury their heads in the sand for profit’ administration also played ball. Get a load of Scott Pruitt, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency:
[He said] that it was “insensitive” to discuss climate change in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
“To have any kind of focus on the cause and effect of the storm versus helping people, or actually facing the effect of the storm, is misplaced,” Pruitt said. ” To use time and effort to address it at this point is very, very insensitive to this people in Florida.”
Something every sane person knows and understands – environmental scientists “overwhelmingly agree that climate change contributes to heightened storm surge and flooding during hurricanes, and that human-caused global warming leads to more frequent extreme-weather events”.
But, like a terrible infomercial, there’s more.
He didn’t just stick the boot in when it came to climate change during his interview on Air Force One, because he was also asked about Charlottesville and a few other hot topics.
Washington Post have those exchanges:
On Charlottesville:
I think especially in light of the advent of Antifa, if you look at what’s going on there. You have some pretty bad dudes on the other side also, and essentially that’s what I said.
Now because of what’s happened since then with Antifa, when you look at really what’s happened since Charlottesville, a lot of people are saying, and people have actually written, ‘Gee, Trump may have a point.’ I said there’s some very bad people on the other side also.
On the Iran nuclear deal:
The Iran deal is not a fair deal to this country. It’s a deal that should not have ever been made. … We are not going to stand what they are doing with our country. They’ve violated so many different elements, and they’ve also violated the spirit of that deal.”
Funny, because two months ago Trump’s own State Department certified Iran’s compliance with the nuclear deal.
Trump and his Department have yet to clarify how they have violated either the terms or spirit of the deal.
The show goes on.
