Given that the UK has seen a number of terror attacks in recent times, it’s no surprise that an explosion would cause panic and fear.
London’s transport body has now shut down part of the underground train line due to an incident at Parson’s Green Tube station, with the Metropolitan Police saying they are now investigating the incident.
Via the Standard:
Passengers were left terrified after an “explosion” on board a packed rush hour Tube train which sent a “heatwave” down the carriage.
Commuters fled for their lives after hearing an explosion on the District line train at Parson’s Green Tube station at around 8.25am.
Witnesses described being “horrified and shaken”, with one passenger on Twitter saying: “Never been so scared in my life.”
All trains are suspended between Earl’s Court and Wimbledon as emergency services deal with the incident.
A photo allegedly from the scene shows what looks like a bucket on the train which appears to have flames coming from it.
Cllr Daniel Holden, who was on the train at the time, said: “Train had just opened doors at Parsons Green.
“Then there was a loud bang, heatwave and fire burst. Everybody scrambled forwards and off.
“The stairs at station delayed people getting out. All emergency services here now.”
British Transport Police said an incident is ongoing and its officers are currently at the scene.
According to the BBC, counter terrorism sources say their working assumption is that the Parsons Green incident is “terrorism”.
