If you happen to be looking to buy a house situated on mainland New York, then this could be the one!
Recently put on the market, the house – located at 180 Bedford Road in Westchester County – was owned by David Rockefeller, who passed away six months ago.
Here’s Forbes:
Six months after David Rockefeller’s death his children have decided to sell at least three of his homes–including the Westchester, N.Y., mansion where he died in March at 101.
His townhouse on Manhattan’s Upper East Side was listed in June with a $32.5 million asking price. One of his islands in Maine became available in July for $19 million. And on Monday, the family put his sprawling estate in Pocantico Hills, N.Y., on the market for $22 million.
Welcome:
The Westchester mansion is situated on 75 acres, with views over the Hudson River and the main residence alone offers 1 050 m² on three levels.
That’s according to Houlihan Lawrence, the property realtors selling the estate.
Can you even? Here’s what else the property has:
A gracious entry with Mott Schmidt’s signature floating staircase is timeless elegance. The living room overlooks the sweeping lawn followed by dramatic river views beyond, as does the dining room, with access to a private side terrace. Overlooking the gardens with a brick terrace, the library has a magnificent carved fireplace, separate office with fireplace and a full bath.
In addition to the grand staircase, an elevator accesses the second floor. The second floor features a master wing with a private balcony, dual dressing galleries with fitted closets; and 5 bedrooms and 5 full baths.
The third floor has an additional 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. A lower basement level includes a wine vault, hobby rooms and offices.
Magnificent specimen gardens, broad lawns and arboretum-worthy woodlands, reminiscent of the creations of England’s Capability Brown, are complemented with a round heated pool, a playhouse for gatherings of any age, a large carriage house, a 3-bedroom gate house, 6-stall barn with tack room and office, three greenhouses with potting benches and an office, a mature apple orchard, and a private helipad.
How divine – you can see way more pics here.
At the time of his death it was estimated that Rockefeller, who was the last surviving grandchild of John D. Rockefeller, had a net worth of $3,3 billion (R43 billion).
Rockefeller’s will, which became public in April, gave each of his five surviving children the chance to buy all the properties at a fair market value or “else to sell them to fund his ambitious philanthropic goals”:
“It is my desire that my children will purchase only those parcels that they will wish to retain for their use or use of an affiliated entity.”
Good on you Rockefeller, I guess it’s the best you could do with your immense wealth.
