Celebrity kids don’t always grow up very well adjusted, and it looks like you can add Nicholas Van Varenberg to that list.

The 21-year-old son of Jean-Claude Van Damme was arrested in Tempe, Arizona, for “allegedly taking his flatmate prisoner with a knife”.

He’s now out on bail of $10 000 (R130 000), which I’m sure the old man helped with, and will have a preliminary hearing on September 20.

The Independent reports:

Police were called to Nicholas Van Varenberg’s apartment…to investigate reports that he had punched an elevator.

But after 20 minutes after they left, his flatmate ran after the officers and told them the 21-year-old had held them at knifepoint…

The Hollywood star’s son was said to have been angry his flatmate had let police into their apartment.

Officers searched the property and found marijuana and a knife.

Van Varenberg, who shares his father’s real surname, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful imprisonment, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nicholas is the youngest of Van Damme’s sons, with his mother Darcy LaPier having been the actor’s third wife.

The pair have now split and Van Damme has remarried.
