You wouldn’t say our man was struggling for cash ahead of the US Open, but there’s no denying the fact that coming second still has its perks.
Last night Kevin Anderson was put to the sword by Rafa Nadal, the Spaniard winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 en route to his 16th career Grand Slam title.
That leaves him second only to Roger Federer on the all time list, the Swiss maestro sitting pretty on 19, but let’s get back to Kevin and his payday.
The big-serving South African took home just over $1,8 million (about R23,6 million) for second place, taking his 2017 prize money earnings past the $2,7 million (R35 million) mark.
The win also boosted his career earnings from singles and doubles combined over the $10 million mark, according to the ATP’s profile, so you can bet the 31-year-old will be OK when he hangs up his massive boots.
The runner-up finish saw him move from 32 on the ATP world rankings to 15th, with a win loss record of 29-16 for the year.
If you haven’t yet had a look at the highlights, here’s a quick recap of what went down last night:
Still one hell of an achievement, Kevin – enjoy all that dosh.
