Near the end of October, just in time for Halloween of course, the second season of Stranger Things will air.
In case you have been inundated by all the awesome series this year, and need a recap on the most important aspects of the series before the new season begins, Netflix set out to help.
As Dungeons and Dragons and other 8os nostalgia play a strong role throughout season one, the recap is styled like an old-school eighties Nintendo-style video game, perfectly suiting the overall theme.
The two-and-a-half minute recap employs synthesised beats familiar to early RPG gamers, accompanied by a clunky graphic that reads “Press Start”.
Titled “Level Up,” it chronicles some of the series biggest moments, explains Rolling Stone:
Eleven emerging from the woods, her many instances of Eggo-snatching and that incredible van flipping over the kids’ heads.
Points are awarded for “evasion” and a “sass bonus,” with hundreds of points awarded to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) for making school bully Troy (Peyton Wich) pee on himself.
Take a look:
To fans’ delight, the trailer for season two dropped in July at Comic-Con, and “reveals that Upside Down will invade the real world in a grotesque, over-the-top way, not unlike other Eighties classics like Ghostbusters or Close Encounters of the Third Kind”.
It will also:
…see the (pseudo) return of Eleven, who vanished in the season one finale, now speaking telepathically and finding a wormhole from the Upside Down back to Indiana.
Oooh, so exiting.
