There’s a cop in India who shows off his moves while directing traffic and is so well-known – and well-received – that many often take detours to see the 38-year-old doing his thing.
Constable Ranjeet Singh began his traffic-directing journey in 2010 when he moonwalked into the High Court Junction on the arterial Mahatma Gandhi Road in India, reports Quartz.
A particularly bothersome intersection for the authorities, it was often the spot of jaywalking, jumping signals, and lane indiscipline.
So Singh took it upon himself to improve compliance:
People weren’t following staid hand movements or periodic beeps of the cop’s whistle anymore—the often dysfunctional signal lights were hardly noticed anyways.
They were now swaying, figuratively speaking, to the directions of the new officer in sunglasses who danced, gestured rhythmically, turned around robotically, and sashayed in style to manage the busy intersection.
Speaking to Quartz over the phone, Singh explained that:
“A change in the body language had made the whole thing interesting and people noticed. Now the number of accidents at the junction have also reduced.”
And the man’s got some moves.
The video below teases some of the swift body movements Singh makes during his 10-hour shift, sustaining momentum in the worst conditions, from pollution to wet weather, and, of course, the maddening traffic:
