There is an easy joke here about ‘nuns on the run‘, but we will move swiftly along.
Now these robbers weren’t actually nuns, but rather donned the outfits as part of their daring daylight robbery of a bank in Tannersville, Pennsylvania.
They strolled into a Citizen Bank at around 12:20PM, one wielding a handgun, and demanded that the teller hand over cash. Turns out they hadn’t done their homework, because when the automatic alarm triggered they fled empty-handed.
The FBI are now on the case and released these images:
NewsAU reports:
…there were further unconfirmed reports of an attempted robbery at First Keystone Community Bank about three miles to the north.
The suspects are described as two Hispanic females, both approximately 5’-5’2” tall and of medium build.
I guess we can expect Trump to tweet something about it shortly.
Turns out robbers donning nun outfits is a thing in America, with a similar incident going down in Chicago back in 2011:
…two robbers dressed in nun costumes held up a suburban bank during a heist.
The robbers rushed into the bank, jumped over the counter and ordered two employees, a teller and the branch manager, to fill a Nike duffel bag with bundles of cash taken from the vault.
A spokeswoman from the FBI described the stick-up to ABC News as a “takeover-style” heist, in which “the individuals came in and took over the bank, instructing tellers to do what the say or be harmed.”
The suspects pointed their weapons at the bank employees, but no shots were fired and no one was injured.
Those criminals took their inspiration from Ben Affleck’s The Town, with the judge who handed down sentencing actually putting on the outfit and mask (seen in that image right up the top) during proceedings.
I would mock the American legal system, but we don’t have much of a leg to stand on.
