No wonder Grace and Uncle Bob have remained married for all of these years.
Southern Africa’s villain number one (don’t worry, JZ is a close second) has married a kindred spirit, in that Grace also shows scant regard for anyone else but her own brethren.
The latest allegations involve Grace beating up 20-year-old Gabriella Engels, a Jozi-based model, during the Zimbabwean first lady’s visit to the city.
The Telegraph reports:
[It’s] claimed the country’s first lady then attacked Ms Engel with an extension cord after finding her in a hotel with her sons, Robert Jnr, 25, and Chatunga 21.
Both sons were allegedly unsteady on their feet after a long party.
Writing on Twitter, Ms Engels, a model from Johannesburg, claimed that the first lady attacked her while her guards looked on and did nothing to help her.
“What is a girl compared to a women beating you and 10+ body guards standing back leaving her to do this s***,” she wrote.
“She split my head open in 3 places with an extension cord and used the plug to hit me,” she added.
There’s a more in-depth account on News24:
“When Grace entered I had no idea who she was. She walked in with an extension cord and just started beating me with it,” Engels told News24 over the phone.
Engels said Mugabe accused her of living with her sons.
“She flipped and just kept beating me with the plug. Over and over. I had no idea what was going on. I was surprised… I needed to crawl out of the room before I could run away.
“Her ten bodyguards just stood there watching, no one did anything, no one tried to help me.”
Engels said hotel staff escorted her out of the hotel. She immediately tried to open a case of assault at the Sandton police station.
A police officer, however, advised her to seek medical attention first.
“There was blood everywhere. Over my arms, in my hair, everywhere.”
She opened a case of assault against the 52-year-old Mugabe on Monday afternoon. Gauteng police were unable to verify whether a case of assault had been opened.
As for those Mugabe children, they were booted out of their mansion in Dubai (allegedly in connection with incidents connected with drug or alcohol abuse), and have recently been evicted from a luxury Jozi apartment complex for a drunken brawl with security guards.
Insert the old ‘apple falling from the tree’ quote.
According to Garnet Basson, CEO of the Capital Hotel group, guests were asked to leave the premises on Sunday night “due to a scenario where we thought it was not good for them to stay there”.
A fake ZANU-PF Twitter account sent this out yesterday:
Engels responded via her Twitter account:
R100 says Mugabe’s sons and Zuma’s sons enjoy jolling together.
Engels says the scar could ruin her modelling career, and is struggling to deal with the trauma she experienced.
If only our leaders and Zimbabwe’s leaders weren’t cut from the same cloth.
UPDATE – Grace Mugabe has handed herself over to the SAPS. This from News24:
Zimbabwean first lady Grace Mugabe has handed herself over to police after she allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old model with an extension cord in Sandton at the weekend.
“[She] is not under arrest because she co-operated, and handed herself over to police,” Police Minister Fikile Mbalula told eNCA.
She is expected to appear in court later on Tuesday.
Lock her up.
