This ain’t going to be a first-date movie, I would imagine, but if you’re down for a good domestic horror-thriller project this is right up your street.
It’s all been pretty secretive up until the trailer dropped earlier this week, director Darren Aronofsky keeping his cards close to his chest.
GQ with a write-up:
JLaw and JBar get tricked into hosting a menacing Ed Harris and a scheming Michelle Pfeiffer, and, well, chaos ensues, seemingly. In the great Aronofsky canon, this looks quite similar to Black Swan in terms of tone. We’ll no doubt be watching events through the lens of Lawrence’s character, wondering what exactly is real and what’s not. The film’s apparent tagline, “Seeing is believing,” hints at that. The grainy, home-video quality of the footage gives the whole thing a familiar, old-school, almost claustrophobic feel.
Let’s get weird:
Mother! hits the big screen on September 15.
