Jollers of the Mother City were hit with a hard piece of truth yesterday, Drinks Feed breaking the news that the beloved Shack would be closing its doors.
Was it real? Or was it just a sea of Fanta?
This is the information Drinks Feed was floating:
At around 2am, armed with a company credit card and tummy full of tequila, our professional bar fly made her way to The Shack in search of the TRUTH (not the coffee shop). After interrogation everyone around a pool table and behind a bar counter, we can now confirm with a heavy heart that The Shack will indeed close its doors.
New owners of the de Villiers streets building have earmarked it for demolishment in the near further. The exact date is unclear, but intel points to early 2019.
The article had its meat, sure, but without any official word from The Shack itself, some readers clung to hope.
Because no one wanted it to be true. No one wanted to hear that one of the few remaining joints from yesteryear would be closing its doors for good.
Then, a few hours later, The Shack stepped up to the plate and “shed some light on the subject” via a Facebook post:
Heartbreak.
Where am I going to go for that last drink at 3:30AM without being forced to dance? Where will I be able to find random out-of-towners to play pool with?
Where else is it socially acceptable to have beer shots? Where will Cape Town Twitter go to make bad life decisions?
WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO DAVE!? Oh, no, not Dave.
While the good news means we might have a few years of The Shack-related shenanigans left, it seems like the only place that will eventually be left to relive our teenage memories will be Gandalf’s.
*Shudder*
