Note to all politicians out there – don’t close a beach due to “a state government shutdown”, and then proceed to hang out on the beach like you own the place.
This was the mistake New Jersey Governor Chris Christie made earlier this month, and the internet was ruthless.
Oh, he brought the whole family along for the ride:
Once the drone photos showed the folly the memes followed close behind:
Good times.
In the midst of the backlash, Christie decided to appear on a local radio station. At this time his approval rating was sitting around 15%, and caller Mike from Montclair wasn’t mincing his words.
The New York Post below:
“Governor, next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fat ass in a car and go to one that’s open to all your constituents,” the caller said before Christie could get a word in.
“Hey,” Christie tried to interrupt, speaking in a what-about-the-children tone. The Republican then attempted to bite back.
“Interesting, Mike,” Christie said…“You know, Mike, I love getting calls from communists in Montclair”…
“You’re a bully. And I don’t like bullies,” Mike said.
“Listen, I’m not the guy who came on the air, swore on the air … You’re swearing on the air, Mike. You’re a bum,” Christie shot back.
And that 15% approval rate plummeted further. Can someone have a word with this guy’s PR team?
The third and final humiliation (OK not final, I’m sure there are more ahead) took place last night, when Christie caught a baseball during the New York Mets game against the Cardinals.
One handed – what a ripper, except the crowd turns on him within seconds.
Even the commentator gets a shot in at the end:
When it’s not your month it’s not your month, pal.
You might want to lay low for a while, because a single digit approval rating seems right around the corner.
