When the ridiculously popular Game of Thrones comes to an end, no doubt fans will be mourning the finale as much as fans mourned the end of the Harry Potter series.
However, a new announcement has ensured that there just might be something to be happy about.
Just like J.K. Rowling, Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin will be giving fans something more, namely a sci-fi series.
Martin is tapped to be the executive producer of Nigerian-American science-fiction writer, Nnedi Okorafor‘s 2010 novel, Who Fears Death, adapting it for TV.
VICE describes author Okorafor is a “rising star in the science fiction and fantasy realm” who has already won the three most prestigious awards in the field: a Hugo, a Nebula, and a World Fantasy Award.
She announced HBO’s acquisition of her novel via Twitter and Facebook:
According to Okay Africa:
Who Fears Death takes place in a post-apocalyptic Sudan, home to Onyesonwu, an ostracized [sic], multiracial child born with special powers, given to her as a result of the circumstances of her birth. She is born to a victim of rape and, thus, expected to live a troubling life by those in her community. The story follows her journey as she discovers the length of her magical abilities and finds that a powerful entity is looking to kill her.
Although fans have been waiting in agony for Martin to finally complete the oft-delayed The Winds of Winter, it’s going to be just as exciting to see what he can do with an apocalyptic Africa situation.
Even more so, in my opinion.
