So you have a drone – well done! – but what do you do when you need to repair it? Or get a battery replacement?
How about if you want to film wide angle, or need a little software upgrade?
Although the drone scene has exploded in South Africa in the past few years, there is little industry support once you have acquired your new toy.
Sure you can get them insured, but that doesn’t always cover those minor malfunctions, so someone went along and changed up the game.
Say what?!
Yeah, baby – thanks to the new partnership between weFix and Drone Racing Africa (DRA), the burgeoning industry now has a local after-sales service.
Rather than drone enthusiasts falling short of the law, you can now get assistance with sales, training and education, regulatory compliance, repairs and accessory suppliers.
That means across weFix’s 36 nationwide stores, just as with cellular device repairs, you can take in your drone for a casual, but necessary update without having to replace the whole damn thing.
Alex Fourie, founder and CEO of weFix, explained that:
Buying a DJI Mavic Pro, for example, is only part of the equation if you want to film wide angle, sports or extreme footage. Equally important is the after-market accessories that mount the camera and the technology support nationwide. And once drone enthusiasts have access to the equipment, they most importantly need to fly safe.
Indeed, safety is another aim of the partnership which will assist people with the legalities regarding the flying of drones.
Although the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has published rules around the flying of drones, a vast majority of people are unaware of where they can fly their drone legally.
And while it is essential and the law for any drone purchaser to understand those rules, there’s hardly any enforcement at the point of purchase.
Don’t you just love it when people put in the work to make your life all that much easier?
