The Premier League might be the richest league in the world, and depending on who you ask the best too, but there’s not much in the way of a decent brawl.
There was Alan Pardew and the headbutt (HERE), but whatever happened to the ‘everyone running off the bench’ brawl?
We’ve seen it in Major League Baseball recently (HERE), and now we’ve seen a pretty decent effort over in the Chinese Super League.
The Citizen with last week’s fracas:
The Brazilian international Oscar received a mammoth eight-game ban for sparking a mass brawl last week.
In a match against Guangzhou R&F, the former Chelsea attacking midfielder lashed the ball directly at two opponents.
It was clearly deliberate.
See for yourself:
Earlier this week Turkish striker Burak Yilmaz was sent off for a slap, which also led to some pushing and shoving:
It’s not just the on-pitch behaviour that is attracting headlines, with Ezequiel Lavezzi having a brain fart recently:
Lavezzi, another Argentine forward on big money following his move last year from Paris Saint-Germain to Hebei China Fortune, was told by the Chinese Football Association last month to “regulate his words and actions more”.
This after promotional photos emerged of him in a slant-eyed pose, causing outrage on social media.
Brazilian forward Hulk has been in hot water, too, having “faced allegations that he punched the Guizhou Zhicheng’s assistant coach and made anti-Chinese comments in the players’ tunnel at half-time”.
He was later cleared of wrongdoing, but all of these incidents don’t exactly shine a great light on the Chinese Super League.
It’s obvious that many players are there solely for the money, and you can’t really fault them on that front, but you still have to earn that payday.
We leave you with this beaut from Andrea Pirlo back in 2015, cashing in over in the US when he clearly can’t be bothered to mark at the near post:
Never change, Pirlo.
