Every so often South Africans are treated to a wonderful, heartwarming advert which uses the country’s landscape as a story-telling backdrop.

Remember that Telkom ad set in the hills of the Transkei? Or that one from an investment bank, which pans across the seven biomes with some heart-wrenching narration?

Well, there’s a new one to add to that list, created for dog food brand Bobtail.

Directed by Egg Films’ Jason Fialkov, Journey is the product of Jozi advertising and marketing agency Mortimer Harvey. It sees local actor Chris Fisher travel through the Transkei along with his best pal, a staffie called Benson.

It’s awfully sad that it’s only 45 seconds, because I could definitely sit through a minute and a half of seeing the love between man and dog.

Watching a repeat of it does help, though.
