Chances are you’ve heard the term ‘green beret’ before, even though the official title is Army Special Forces (SF).
They’ve been around since the early 1950s, and specialise in unconventional warfare – taking “small SF teams to train and lead guerrilla forces”.
Green berets have been at the forefront of battles in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, according to BusinessInsider, so let’s take a look at what sets them apart from the rest.
The Army selects this elite few from among the best soldiers that come to Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS).
It’s only 24 days at SFAS before they move on to another year of training.
That year includes language training (every SF soldier learns a second language), specialty skills — such as weapons or radios — and finally Robin Sage, the culminating training exercise.
That might mean High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) training…
…SF has their own Dive school.
Most recently, Green Berets and other elite special operations forces have embedded and advised with Iraqi security forces and Kurdish militiamen to take the fight to ISIS.
They have some of the most highly-skilled shooters in the military, that are both extremely accurate and fast shooters — and can remain so when fired upon.
They have some of the coolest toys [and] are supported by the finest helicopter pilots in the world…
Guys, even the dogs are elite:
I mean if they’re properly trained I suppose it’s OK.
Of course their weapons are also top notch:
Other than all the war and hard work, it looks like it might be rather interesting.
