I have never understood the practice of getting rid of stuff.
Call me a hoarder, fine, but don’t come crying when all of a sudden you need to buy a whole new lounge suite – especially after initially selling your other one, because you were moving into a furnished flat, and a year later the new place you’re moving into is unfurnished.
Just don’t.
Do you even know how much a new lounge suite costs these days? It’s ghastly, and the one from your mum is probably a hundred times more stable and comfortable.
And what if it’s your grandfather’s old leather couch he used to have in his office, along with all those other trophy items that are lucky enough to find a spot in your new “furnished” home?
Rather, you should really utilise self-storage units.
You might turn your nose up at the mere thought of the idea, but it’s a good place to put away the stuff you might need in the future or, like Seth, put away that stuff you just can’t bear to get rid of.
So to bust a few myths and misconceptions about utilising self-storage, we asked local guys Stor-Age (have you seen their new renovations at their Gardens location? Divine.) and this is what they had to say:
Only Long-term Storage Is Allowed
Many people think that when storing their stuff that they will be required to sign a long term contract and that they will have to use the product for a minimum of 6 months. At Stor-Age this isn’t the case, we have month to month contracts that only require that you give notice 15 days before the end of the month that you intend to vacate. This makes us the perfect option for when you’re moving home or you are renovating.
That There Are Strict Sizes
A common misconception is that there are only one or two sized units that you can store in and that it’s a matter of fitting your stuff into a unit. Stor-Age have a variety of unit sizes that mean that you can find the perfect sized unit for your stuff, after all why pay for more space than you need? With a range of sizes from 3m2 up to in excess of 30m2 there is bound to be a perfectly sized space for you.
Storage Facilities Are Dirty
The usual perception of a self-storage facility is that it is a dusty dirty place that is barely maintained. Stor-Age facilities are run to strict standards and are always in tip top shape. We do our best to make sure that our facilities are as good looking as the customers that make use of.
Far Away from Home
When people think of storage facilities, they usually think of a warehouse on the outskirts of town, near the airport or on a plot. With 35 facilities situated across six major South African cities, there’s a Stor-Age facility near you. Best of all, they’re conveniently located so that you don’t have to go far to get to your safely stored things.
Access By Appointment Only
What could be more frustrating than having to make an appointment to get access to stored goods that belong to you? With access to facilities between 07h00 and 19h00, Stor-Age make sure that you can drop by just about any time. All you need is your entry tag and the key to the lock on your unit, it’s as easy as that!
Still thinking of selling all your household items? Here’s another reason not to: Stor-Age will pick them up for you.
