If you were one of those who loudly proclaimed you would be able to beat Usain Bolt if you ever found yourself running alongside him in the 100m sprint, now’s your chance to show us what you’ve got.
[Remember, Bolt’s record sits at 9.58 seconds. Just saying.]
However, it won’t be like it would be at the Olympics – and Bolt won’t be at the starting block beside you, either.
Set to take place in the Mother City on May 21, the #ForeverFaster ‘Beat Bolt’ race will be a feature during the FNB Cape Town 12 ONERUN. A commentator will be stationed +-50m ahead of the activation to motivate runners to make this the fastest 100m of their lives, 10.8km in.
No pressure.
The activation will take place on Queen Victoria Street, just 1.2km away from the finish line. Not only will your 100m sprint be timed, but runners will be notified of their 100m sprint times via SMS after the race.
To give you some perspective, it’s the red section on the map below:
According to Brett Bellinger, Marketing Director of PUMA South Africa:
Essentially the activation will be a #ForeverFaster 100m sprint. It’s a ‘Beat Bolt’ competition so of course it will require speed.
The good news, however, is that if you are able to secure certain sprint times, you will qualify for discount vouchers instore at PUMA:
[They don’t even offer a prize for under 10 seconds. 😂]
Starting at Woodbridge Island in Milnerton, the route follows the coastline through the Harbour, past key city landmarks and finishes at the Portside building in the heart of Cape Town.
You can find out all about it HERE, and you should probably start training for sprints mid-run to get your mind prepared for that jolt to your body.
