Larry Page and his desire to build a flying car isn’t breaking news, rumours having been around since back in June of last year (HERE).

The Google founder obviously has some cash to burn, and the Kitty Hawk company is where he seems to have directed much of it.

They’re behind the ‘flying car’, as The Verge calls it, and here’s what it’s all about:

The company describes the Kitty Hawk Flyer as an “all-electric aircraft” that is designed to operate over water and doesn’t require a pilot’s license to fly. Kitty Hawk promises people will be able to learn to fly the Flyer “in minutes.” A consumer version will be available by the end of this year, the company says.

So less a flying car and more a flying, um, boat?

As of yet there is no price tag attached to the Flyer, but if you’re keen you can jump the queue:

…the company is enticing eager pilots with a $100 three-year membership that offers priority placement on a waiting list, company-branded gear, and exclusive access to a flight simulator and company events. Members will also get a $2,000 discount off the eventual retail price.

When the discount is $2 000 you can bet it won’t come cheap, but can you really put a price on landing in the middle of Hartbeespoort Dam with all the boets watching?

No, no you can’t.
