Out with the old and in with the new, something that we’ve just seen over at one of the nation’s favourite websites.
As of today the country’s biggest online classifieds site, Gumtree South Africa, will be sporting a new logo as part of an ongoing and comprehensive redesign.
One might even call it turning over a new leaf, ek se, something that was set in motion with the stylish homepage redesign early last month (HERE).
Here’s Claire Cobbledick, Head of Marketing for Gumtree South Africa:
Gumtree’s logo has remained unchanged since 2005, although the site has undergone major changes. Gumtree has always been an innovator in the classifieds’ space – it’s high time that the image of the site matches the level of sophistication and development that has been rolled out behind the scenes.
The new logo will be similar to that of Gumtree UK, but with a unique colour palette inspired by the South African landscape.
Ready, set, go:
Less is more and clean and crisp – very nice.
Cobbledick again:
We’ve kept our iconic eucalyptus tree motif but upgraded it to look digital and fresh, making the most of negative space to make the logo pop. Because our audience is mobile-driven, the imagery would have to translate well across a range of devices and browsers, and we think it does exactly that.
It’s not just the look that’s getting an overhaul, which will please those who regularly use Gumtree, because the site promises great results for buyers and sellers alike.
A two-step posting process will assist customers in getting their goods online much faster, while mandatory registration and image uploads (introduced earlier this month) will improve the quality of listings found on the site.
No more properties listed at a steal, with no idea of what you’re going to see when you rock up for an inspection – happy days.
This from Johan Nel, Director-GM of Gumtree South Africa:
We are combining years of experience and lessons learnt with best-of-breed technology to help South Africans achieve their goals faster, whether it’s marketing their business, decluttering their homes or browsing for the best deals.
Sellers can expect up to 10% more replies than before, according to testing in other markets. While the site looks different, it does exactly what it’s always done – help South Africans to make quick cash or find a bargain.
If you’re new to bargain hunting, or making a quick buck by flogging goodies online, fear not – a 24/7 customer service team will be available to assist customers with navigating the site or answering concerns.
We’re always in favour of something that makes the online experience easier, and it never hurts to throw in a crisp new logo while you’re at it.
Here’s hoping Gumtree have more exciting plans in the pipeline in the not-too-distant future.
