We’re used to hearing grunts and groans that resemble sex noises from tennis players themselves, but I’ve never seen play held up due to the vigorous love-making of someone in a nearby apartment.
Tuesday night’s match at the Sarasota Open between Americans Frances Tiafoe and Mitchell Krueger wouldn’t have grabbed headlines around the world, except for the fact that some chap called Brian (I think that’s what I can make out from the screams) brought his A game.
At first, the commentator thinks someone has been watching something naughty on their phone, but then the realisation sets in:
Insert obligatory joke about tennis and love, right?
The Dispatch with more:
“Yeah, because it’s quiet while you’re playing, obviously. You could hear a pin drop and it was, yeah, interesting,” said Open director Tony Driscoll…
“It was light-hearted and then the players got involved in it, making comments,” Driscoll said, “so it became very light-hearted, so it was taken in a good way.”
Krueger tweeted he wondered if the incident would make him “viral.” Tiafoe responded that the two went viral a “long time ago.”
Well played, Brian.
