Everyone loves a good public feud, and things really heat up when it comes to the world of celebrity chefs and food critics.
I imagine Jay Rayner isn’t welcome back in the George V Hotel in Paris following last week’s scathing takedown (HERE), but that’s the life of a restaurant reviewer with a sharper tongue than most.
Since certain chefs have become celebrities there have been a number of high-profile bitter battles, and the Telegraph has the best of the bunch.
Yes, of course Mr Ramsay features heavily:
It all started in 2009 when Ramsay branded Oliver a “one-pot wonder”, causing Oliver to retaliate by mocking him for having Botox.
This has continued on through the years with Oliver claiming Ramsay is deeply jealous of his success: “Gordon will do anything to try and take the p*** out of me because he is deeply jealous and can’t quite work out why I do what I do and why he can’t do that.”
In 2015 the feud reared itself again at the opening of Bread Street Kitchen in Hong Kong, when Ramsay called out Oliver for not attending the opening night of his own restaurant. Speaking to CNBC, Ramsay said: “Two British chefs, Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay, rubbing shoulders together in Hong Kong. At least I’m here, I came to my opening, right? If you’re going to open a restaurant in Hong Kong at least turn up.”
On April Fools Day, Ramsay offered Oliver a tongue-in-cheek ‘apology’ for recent comments about his restaurant chain during his time as the host for The Nightly Show: “Dear Jamie, I just want to say that I’m sorry. I have been hard on you this week, Jamie. I’ve called you fat, I’ve criticised your restaurants, called you fat, said you enjoyed prison sex, and called you fat.
“What I said was hurtful, Jamie. I don’t want to make you cry. The last thing I want to do is look at your cute face and think: blubber, blubber, blubber.”

The claws came out in 2014 when Martha Stewart seemingly took offence to Gwyneth Paltrow’s attempt to break into the world of cookery and lifestyle blogging with her website Goop.
Not one to take things lying down, Paltrow posted a list of Thanksgiving desserts including a “JailBird Cake”, a thinly-veiled jab at Stewart’s criminal history.
Stewart’s response was even cattier. The November issue of ‘Martha Stewart Living’ featured a six-page spread with a pie called “Conscious Coupling” – a reference to Paltrow’s split from husband Chris Martin which she called a “conscious uncoupling”.
Chris Martin was too busy making truly awful music to comment.
Anthony Bourdain took offence to ‘Semi-Homemade Cooking’ host Sandra Lee because she uses pre-prepared foods on her show.
He even went so far as to brand Lee “pure evil. Her death dealing, can opening ways will cut a swatch of destruction through the world if not contained”.
Sandra Lee refused to retaliate and told the New York Times his rudeness was just a “shtick. That’s how some people get their press”.
Marco Pierre White hired Ramsay, who then went on to become his most famous protégé – something which strained the relationship. Ramsay implied in an interview that White was not a good restaurateur.
Ramsay also turned up to White’s wedding with a camera crew in tow, which, understandably, did not go down well with White. Ramsay later stole the reservation book from one of his own restaurants and publicly blamed White.
That is some petty nonsense, Gordon.
When Paula Deen was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2012, Bourdain called Deen the “most dangerous person in America”, blasting her for making high-fat foods while promoting diabetes drugs: “I did smoke cigarettes for a lot of years on my show. But I wasn’t selling any f**ing cigarettes…And when I found a spot on my f***ing lung, I didn’t wait three years so I could get a deal selling the patch.”
Deen only managed to fire back with “get a life”.
Do better, Paula, although perhaps she was too busy being racist at the time (HERE).
