When Google revealed their newly renovated, outrageously cool Googleplex offices back in 2013, the world took a look and every employee with a sense of adventure wished they worked there.
There were slides, there were hanging chairs and there was free food.
Soon, various other tech startups began to invest in their own company culture, doing so in an effort to attract the best employees the world had to offer. Although the trend began in Silicon Valley, it soon moved over to the bustling metropolis of New York City.
Business Insider has visited pretty much all of the coolest offices in the City and showed off some of the most forward-thinking aspects of each.
Here’s what we thought might inspire you for your own space on this faux Monday:
Uber
With offices in a Chelsea warehouse, Uber’s employees sometimes need scooters and skateboards to get around. Although the kitchen is fully stocked, with wine, beer, and coffee on tap, our favourite aspect is that every week, the entire office gathers to eat breakfast together while listening to presentations. Yum.
Etsy
Based in Brooklyn, Etsy’s offices pride themselves at being environmentally sustainable, being B Corporation- certified since 2012, meaning it is “held to rigorous standards of social and environmental performance,” explains This Is Insider.
And get this: to make the space just so much cooler, 50% of the furnishings – about 750 pieces – in the entire building were made by local artists and Etsy sellers:
Spotify
The digital music service’s New York City office has its own studio, purely for the purpose of artists to come and create original Spotify content. And, all about the office, cool decorations are featured, from portraits of famous poets to music collectables, like these drum heads signed be recording artists such as Nate Ruess and Joss Stone:
BarkBox
Providing over 200 000 subscribers with monthly pet-related goodie boxes, it’s not surprising that the office is ruled by dogs. Situated in New York City’s Chinatown, the office pups can mostly roam freely, but employees must abide by “off-leash” hours to keep things from completely going to the dogs.
And, of course, the office is stocked with plenty of treats for both dogs and humans.
Birchbox
Much like BarkBox above, Birchbox sends off a box containing four to five selected samples of makeup, or other beauty related products to customers every month. As gnomes are the company’s mascot, chosen for being a symbol of hard work, community, and collaboration, they are dotted around the office.
But the coolest perk? The offices “PR Closet” where employees can take their pick of a variety of products and samples.
😍:
Kickstarter
Every Thursday, the employees of Kickstarter’s HQ in Brooklyn gather in the kitchen for a family-styled lunch. While the interiors are filled with unique gifts from creators, the main attraction is the rooftop greenery space which features planter of chairs to lounge in and even a veggie garden.
Oh, and dogs are totally welcome.
