Roll that word around as you imagine eating a handful of fresh raspberries. Now think of those raspberries in the form of a beer.

I understand that might have given your mind a little too much work for this fake Friday afternoon, so let’s try this:

Fruity and berry-derived aromas on the nose. A strong raspberry presence throughout. Light bitterness on the palate with a slight tangy raspberry-derived acidity.

Sounds delicious, right? Indeed it does.

The latest offering from Devil’s Peak Brewing Company, the raspberry-flavoured pale ale is the result of a collaboration with renowned Scottish brewery, Fierce Beer Co., who were just named Scotland’s best new brewery.

It’s the first beer out of the Devil’s Peak Collaboration Series, brewed on their premises in Salt River, and will be launched in the form of a 440ml can today at 5PM.

What a way to start off the Easter weekend.

But why a collaboration? If you have ever had the chance to learn about Devil’s Peak beyond their beer, they have a philosophy based on sharing developments taking place in the craft beer realm elsewhere.

We are so glad that South Africans are the people with whom they will be sharing it.

In this regard, it makes sense for Devil’s Peak to head to Scotland. Fierce Beer is the king of using unheard combinations of ingredients in their beers: they have a “sour ale with passion fruit, mango and lemon”, and a “coffee and vanilla Porter” among other.

Says Dave Grant, the head brewer at Fierce Brewery:

Rubus is the result of the coming together of two cutting-edge craft breweries from opposing hemispheres; an amazing opportunity to share ideas, and produce a world class brew.

The beer will be available from today in Jozi, Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban.
