People all over South Africa are asking what will happen on Friday.
Since President Jacob Zuma’s radical cabinet reshuffle last week, the country has, as one, stood up against him.
While some people took to the streets immediately on Friday, the rest have set a date for a mass nationwide shutdown.
Given that the ANC have just proved they won’t be doing anything themselves, dishing up one of the most spineless press briefings of all time, I guess it’s up to the citizens.
This week, Friday, April 7.
But what exactly does this all mean? From Huffington Post:
[Pravin] Gordhan called for “mass mobilisation” to ensure accountability in the state, telling mourners who attended ANC stalwart Ahmed Kathrada’s memorial service: “There are many of my comrades in the [ANC] NEC that would say the same thing, that the people shall govern.”
“You can’t govern if you remain in your comfortable lounge. Become organised, part of something.”
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, speaking at a fundraising event on Saturday night, also appeared to be advocating for change…
Former Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi now heads the [South African Federation of Trade Unions]. He was not available this week to shed light on what the trade unions are planning, but the unions have joined the Save SA campaign.
So how are people getting mobilised? Trawling through Facebook, it has already started.
Organisations such as the #SA1st Forum, SaveSA, Social Justice Coalition, and Ndifuna Ukwazi have been holding meetings in an effort to plan what will go down on Friday in the most peacefully effective way.
While #SaveSA is planning a People’s March on the Union Buildings in Pretoria from 10AM, if you find yourself in Cape Town,#SA1st Forum is the platform you need to watch.

And the DA in Jozi and Durban respectively:
In the mean time, don’t fall for the government’s efforts to immobilise you. Read GroundUp’s comment on why calling these illegal protests is nonsense and make sure you do something on Friday.
