70 years old and still going strong.
Elton John celebrated the milestone with a birthday bash in Hollywood, with some of entertainment’s biggest stars making an appearance.
Yeah, even Prince Harry featured, although he wasn’t actually there in person.
Anyway let’s get the lowdown first from Hello:
The evening event, which was held at Red Studios in Los Angeles, honored [sic] Elton’s fabulous career with Rob Lowe taking on host duties. Like any awards ceremony, Elton’s birthday featured musical performances by Lady Gaga, Ryan Adams, Rosanne Cash and Stevie Wonder.
Lady Gaga, who is godmother to Elton and David’s two sons, joined forces with Stevie Wonder to perform Elton’s 1980 hit “Happy Birthday.” Stevie Wonder also sang Elton’s 1973 classic “Daniel,” while Lady Gaga performed her 2011 single “Born This Way” for the crowd. Other celebrity guests included: Neil Patrick Harris, Ryan Phillippe, Jon Hamm, James Corden and Heidi Klum…
Prince Harry made a memorable cameo at the event, appearing in video-form to wish the singer a happy day. The royal emulated one of Elton’s signature looks, wearing 70’s style star-shaped sunglasses. E! News reported that he was also seen pretending to read from the July 2016 issue of Attitude magazine, which featured him and his brother, Prince William, on the cover.
OK, scene set.
The Telegraph adds that the event helped raise funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the UCLA Hammer Museum, with these pictures below from the same source:
