It’s quite tragic that people have a habit of abusing things we really need along the way, making us all look bad – and one British woman is just another example of someone being naughty for a quick selfish buck.

Hanging out in Zanzibar, the woman and her son – who have not been named – paired up for a casual bit of life insurance fraud when they claimed she had died in a car crash on the island last April.

However, the insurance company became suspicious when “they examined the documents, but could find no record of the death with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for the local authorities,” explains The Telegraph.

The pot of gold was worth £140 000 (R2.2 million) and was paid out.

But now, the two have been arrested after the son, 19, admitted during questioning that his mother was actually alive and well in Canada. Authorities contacted her and she returned to the UK where she will stand for prosecution.

Tsk tsk.
